On former roll call square in Gusen

On May 5, 2025, the liberation of the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps marks its 80th anniversary. This milestone will be commemorated with a memorial ceremony at the former Gusen concentration camp on May 10th, emphasizing the importance of remembrance. The event is held under the motto “Liberated?!” and explores the multifaceted meaning of freedom and liberation – for the victims, the survivors, and our society today. The ceremony will feature musical contributions from different nations. A subsequent procession will lead participants together to the Memorial de Gusen, accompanied by the St. Georgen an der Gusen town music band, which will perform pieces composed by prisoners in the camp, among others. The ceremony concludes at 6:45 PM with the laying of wreaths at the memorial—a silent moment of remembrance. This commemoration is not only an act of remembrance but also a bridge to the future. It connects generations and nations, ensuring that the message from the Mauthausen Oath – “Long live international solidarity! Long live freedom!“ – remains alive!
