Construction of the "Appellplatz"

Prisoners working on the construction of the camp. In the center the roll call square (“Appellplatz”), still under construction, and behind this square the prisoner barracks; the SS accommodation is located on the very left, and the bare brickwork of the kitchen barrack on the very right. At the time the photograph was taken, the ‘Jourhaus’, the camp walls and the stone watchtowers had not yet been built.
